A Chinese delegation headed by President of the Standing Committee of China’s Congress,Wu Bangguo visited the southern Dalmatian city of Dubrovnik yesterday (Sun). After meeting in Zagreb with Croatia’s leaders, Bangguo met with representatives of local authorities at the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel in Dubrovnik behind closed doors. “We are delighted that a Chinese delegation visited Dubrovnik. The city does not want to act as an independent tourist center and therefore we work with our friends Venice, we have direct flights to Athens, Istanbul and Bad Homburg. We will try to position Dubrovnik on the map of Europe to a number of Chinese tourists, whilst they are visiting Europe,” said Dubrovnik Mayor Andro Vlahusic. Vlahusic also added that government infrastructure projects which are in progress, including the Adriatic-Ionian motorway from Ploce to the border of Albania, will be discussed with the Chinese delegation. The Chinese delegation arrived in Croatia to mark the 20th anniversary since the establishment of Croatian-Chinese diplomatic relations, reported daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija.
